Modernization of a control system for a log cutting machine
The control system is based on an existing one, with the main goal being a drastic improvement in the reliability and operational characteristics of the machine. The existing electrical equipment is being completely replaced, with the main component being the use of a soft starter to control the machine's main 45kW drive. Using such a power element allows for smooth starting and stopping of the motor, which is crucial for extending the lifespan of both the motor itself and the mechanics it drives. Additionally, the soft starter provides overload protection and continuous monitoring of the current consumed. This way, automatic adjustment of log feeding can be applied, where feeding stops if the consumed current rises. To implement this functionality, a logic controller is used, which receives information from the soft starter about the current consumption. The products used for the implementation of this project are from Schneider Electric.
